How cold does it get in london in winter?

Im travelling there next january for new year and was wondering if it gets very cold there. I heard they've had a few bad winters recently and was wondering if this winter will pan out the same way. And when these arctic periods of weather occur how cold would it get in london day and night and how much snow did you get last year? thank you for your help.
