Does the stiffness of an ice hockey skate effects how you skate?

Ive been wondering if the stiffness effects how you skate. almost saying that if a new person is wearing pro level skates they will not be able to skate well. I have been looking at getting new/stiffer higher end skates. I am now in bauer vapor X30's and am looking at getting bauer vapor X5.0's Im wondering if a stiffness change will effect my skating.
