Can a baby (or fetus) be implanted too low onto your uterus?

my friend tells me that she is 4 weeks pregnant (less or more) and the Dr told her that the baby had implanted very low onto her uterus(or placenta)(she couldnt explain right) and she could get very sick so she should probably abort. can this really happen to someone and is it actually dangerous?
